On 28 June, our captain Leo van Rijn passed away.
Leo van Rijn was a highly experienced master mariner with a long and dedicated career at sea. He had been sailing since the 1950s, when he already served on small coastal vessels of around 500 tons as a mate. Over the decades that followed, he developed into a very skilled and respected captain, and he served with our company for almost 25 years.
Leo was known for his calm and steady leadership, his friendly and approachable character, and his pleasant way of working with everyone on board. He was highly appreciated by colleagues and crews alike.
He also had a special connection with children who came aboard. He was always kind and patient with them, and often took the time to make their days at sea memorable-something as simple as baking pancakes almost daily became one of those warm memories many will not forget.
Above all, Leo was not only a valued captain but also a friend to many of us. His presence on board brought calm, trust, and good spirits.
We remember him with great respect and gratitude for his lifetime at sea and his dedication to those he sailed with.
Leo passed away at the age of 92. He will be deeply missed.
